I believe you are all aware that our school recently underwent an External School Review (ESR) by the Quality Assurance Division of the Education Bureau in mid-May. The last evaluation took place in 2014, and after eleven years, we once again had the opportunity for the Bureau’s officers to assess various aspects of our school and provide suggestions for our continuous development.<\/p>\n
The report of this ESR has been delivered to the school, and the concluding chapter of the report will be uploaded to the Education Bureau\u2019s website for your review. Here, I would like to share some observations from the report regarding our school.<\/p>\n
During the ESR, four officers from the Education Bureau and two in-service principals, visited our school on May 12, 13, 15, 19, and 21. They conducted over thirty lesson observations, met with our school\u2019s supervisor, school board members, a few parents, the principal, all teachers, and several students. They thoroughly reviewed a wealth of documents, student coursework, and teaching materials to understand our school\u2019s development.<\/p>\n
I am delighted to share that many aspects of our work received very positive feedback from the reviewers. This includes our planning, implementation, and monitoring of the school development plan; our efforts to promote teachers\u2019 professional growth and strengthen middle management capabilities; our initiatives to cultivate students’ self-directed learning and self-management skills; our planning and execution of STEAM education; our work on nurturing students’ values; as well as our care for their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.<\/p>\n
Here are some excerpts from the report\u2019s concluding chapter:
\n“The school has a clear development direction and can establish appropriate, student-focused goals and strategies. Through rich collaborative learning experiences, students can enhance their self-management skills in areas like emotional management, social skills, and self-discipline. Classroom learning objectives are clear, teachers explain concepts well, and there is good interaction between teachers and students. The school cares for students’ physical and mental health through diverse learning activities; and from knowledge, emotional and practical perspectives, fosters correct values and attitudes, such as gratefulness and care for others. Students are respectful, eager to learn, and they get along well with their peers.”<\/p>\n
Of course, while the evaluators appreciated many aspects of our school, they also provided suggestions for improvement. The report indicates that we need to deepen our analysis of quantitative self-assessment data to enhance the effectiveness of evaluation. We have engaged the team from the “Quality School Improvement Project” at the Chinese University of Hong Kong to provide professional training for our teachers to enhance their ability to interpret and utilize data for a more in-depth assessment of our work\u2019s effectiveness, ultimately benefiting student learning. Additionally, the reviewers offered suggestions for further development in teaching, including questioning techniques, feedback, and group learning strategies. Therefore, in the coming year, we have invited the team from the “Quality School Improvement Project” to collaborate with teachers from various subjects, and we have also hired a retired principal with great experience as a curriculum consultant to train teachers at different levels to enhance our teaching capabilities. I firmly believe these efforts will help our students unearth their full potential.<\/p>\n
The development of our school in recent years is truly a blessing from God and the result of the dedicated efforts of our loving E Wun community. Whether teachers, students, or parents, we support one another in nurturing students who grow here at E Wun, allowing them to experience God’s grace and grow physically and in knowledge. This will continue to be our direction moving forward.<\/p>\n
